Students will be brushing up on their teamwork sills this week. What do you do when there are 5 people and only one ball? You share it! Passing is an important part many games. Grade 2-4 students will be brushing up on their passing skills using a basketball. K-1 will be working as a team to score as many points as possible using their shooting pattern. Their cue reminders are chest, knees, and spring. This reminds them the ball starts on their chest, then they bend their knees and spring the ball toward their target. Please, ask them about their class.
This week students will be working on fitness and motor patterns using a basketball. K-1 students are further developing their bouncing, catching and dribbling skills. 2-4 students are working to make their dribbling and shooting patterns more mature. It is fantastic to hear the students discuss the different strategies they are employing to make sure their defend their ball and make a basket more consistently. Please, ask them about their class.
Burr School Rocks! Students did a fantastic job of using their hearts to power their bodies during Jump Rope For Heart. Students spent some time at the beginning of class reflecting on just how important their heart health is to enjoying life and some ways to keep their hearts healthy. They then embarked on the road to a healthy heart. 4th graders did an amazing job being Heart Guides for the Pre K, K, and 1st grade students. They were role-models not only of sportsmanship, but also of heart health. Students also raised over $4, 000 in donations to the American Heart Association. What fun! Students this week took a look into their hearts using the PACER. The PACER is an acronym for Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run. Students use the data form their last test to set a goal for themselves. Students hearts are ten weeks stronger than they were the last time they took the test. Most students either maintained or increased their level of aerobic capacity. Please, ask them about their class.
